President Tinubu, Peter Obi, and Fayemi Meet at Vatican for Pope Leo XIV Installation
Rome, Italy – May 2025
In a rare show of unity, President Bola Tinubu, Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi were seen together on Sunday at the Vatican during the installation Mass of Pope Leo XIV.
According to reports, the encounter took place when Kayode Fayemi spotted President Tinubu seated among other global leaders. Fayemi then approached Peter Obi, inviting him to join in paying homage to the Nigerian President. Obi graciously agreed, and the two walked together to Tinubu’s seat.
Fayemi broke the ice, saying, “Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.”

President Tinubu, known for his quick wit, replied, “I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian Delegation.”
The remark drew laughter from Obi, who agreed, “Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation.”
Both Obi and Fayemi are prominent Catholics and Papal knights, further highlighting the significance of their attendance at the historic Vatican event.
